Week 9 July 1-10, 2021

Week 9 (7/1-10/21)

Counce, TN @ Grand Harbor Marina on Tennessee River (7/1-5/21) Hanging out for the 4th of July weekend watching the “crazies” attempt to drive boats in the waves and traffic!

Florence AL @ Florence Harbor Marina (7/6-7/21) Another huge lock and this time did it with a 300 ft+ barge/tug in the lock with us! Very exciting! We went in after him and departed before him. These barges can be intimidating, but amazing to watch the skilled captains navigate them through the skinny rivers! We met up with friends we met in Demopolis which is fun as we don’t get to do that very often. Heard on our radio that barges were so backed up it would be a 6 hour wait so we were glad to have our spot secured in the marina.

Decatur AL @ Free Dock (7/8/21)

Guntersville AL @ City Harbor Free Dock (7/9/21) Absolutely gorgeous section of the river! The Bluffs are beautiful, colorful rock walls that have a series of anthropomorphic drawings. One is believed to be 600 years old! Heavy rain getting into the harbor but once we got into the City Harbor visibility and waves diminished. Took a bike ride along the river to the Main Channel Brewery and good burritos!

Nickajack Lake TN @ anchor (7/10/21) Another beautiful spot, nice park nearby for a walk and pick up some ice. Some rain but left us a lovely double rainbow! We always think about our great views when we are anchored in front of stunning homes, and think how lucky we are to have the same view for free!

Week 8 June 24-30, 2021

Week 8 (6/24-30/21)

Tombigbee Oxbow, Mississippi (6/24/21) Anchorage, passed through 1 lock today. Took several tries to set our anchor as the river had been flowing strong for a couple weeks. This is where the overflow from Demopolis Lake is released so most sand/mud has been pushed down stream. We did finally set our anchor in 30 ft. of water. Set out to nearby boat ramp for Bodie’s chariot ride to potty spot only to find boat ramp totally engulfed in mud. Kent and Bodie set out to get to grass, I got out to check the anchor and proceeded to sink and fall on my butt! Decided to dinghy around the corner to the sand embankment. High but doable and Bodie got his walk. On our way north we cruised by some beautiful white sandstone embankments, old bridges and of course enjoyed more beautiful sunsets!

Pickensville North, MS (6/25/21) Anchorage, passed through 2 locks today.

Columbus Marina, MS (6/26-27/21) Passed through 2 locks today.

Blue Bluff Park MS @ Free Dock (6/28/21) Nope didn’t happen! Coastal Cruiser has been a Great help to us, but off the target here. Had to back down twice, off of trees hiding underwater, trying to get into this area. Went to second entrance which was totally blocked with debris. Ended up going up about 2 miles to another anchorage. Shallow going in but ended up a nice area.

Fulton MS @ Midway Marina (6/29/21) 2 more locks today.

Cottonsprings, MS (6/30/21) 3 locks today, our tallest so far at almost 90 feet! Anchored out in a beautiful lagoon, clear water, nice swim and rum beverages!
