Week 6 (2/22-28/21)

Indiantown (2/22/21)

I taught 6th grade in Indiantown. It was about a 30 minute drive from Stuart. I drove along the St. Lucie river, which is the river we cruised to get to Indiantown. I was looking forward to some great Mexican food but our marina was not close enough to town. It is a good “hurricane hole” that we will keep in mind for next fall. We also went through our first of 4 locks between the east and west coast. I was a bit nervous, but it's something that you never forget and we went through several locks when we took a canal boat through the Erie Canal.

Lake Okeechobee to Clewiston (2/23/21)

Stayed at the Rolan Martin Tiki Bar, saw a gator and enjoyed cruising the lake. We had a nice day and deep water! It took about 3 hours to cross.

LaBelle (2/24-25/21)

What a nice surprise! Great town, nice people, good food and a free dock with power and water. We found a fancy brewery, with a gator, nice walking town and camels ready to ride at the local Swamp Cabbage Festival! We got to have dinner with Kent’s cousin David and Kristine. David made a nice video as we were leaving using his drone. It was cool to see our boat from the air cruising the river and going under a bridge.

Cape Coral/Bimini Basin anchorage (2/26-27/21)

This was an interesting anchorage! To get into it you cross a very shallow area that is not very well marked on maps. This is after you survive the mega boat traffic of Ft. Myers. Worst traffic we’ve been in since Charleston! Then you cruise, about a mile, through canals lined with beautiful homes. Finally, you pop into an open area surrounded by the town, condos, and homes. We had such a great time taking the dingy through the canals! Absolutely beautiful sunsets and nice smooth water!

Cayo Costa anchorage (2/28-1/21)

This stop is one of my all-time favorites! The water was beautiful, clear, and warm; blue with an effervescent green. We went swimming, took the dinghy on several excursions, saw manatee, Kent caught a delicious fish, and we went over to Cabbage Key Island for a “cheeseburger in paradise”! Bodie even went wading for the first time! Kent and Bradley actually went to Cayo Costa many years ago for a camping experience. Somewhere we definitely want to return to.

Week 5, 2021 (2/15-21/21)

Malabar anchorage (2/15/21)

Met friends from Savannah at this lovely island. We anchored just off the island, took the dinghy to the island, walked the sand bar, let the dogs play, oh and Aaron had to go get our dinghy as it slipped away and decided to head back to the boat by itself! 😲

Vero Beach (2/16/21) Love all the birds we have seen on our journey!

Port Salerno (2/17-18/21)

In June of 2019 we took our two week “boat handling/navigation” course in Port Salerno. It was well worth the time and money. Oh Yes we did have some fun while we were there!

Stuart mooring ball (2/19-21/21)

We stayed on a mooring ball southwest of Stuart. We stayed an extra day as winds increased. We lived in Stuart for two years, fun to go back and check it out. We found a nice wine bar, good farmers market, fun marina shop and a beautiful park.

Week 4, 2021 (2/8-14/21)

Palm Coast (2/8-9/21)
Quaint area, cute European Village, many dolphins along the way!

New Smyrna Beach (2/10/21)

Cocoa Village (2/11-12/21)

Eau Gallie/North Melbourne (2/13-14/21)

One of those great places where you make friends instantly! Offers to pick things up at the store, help with docking and party with you like old buddies! Great time at an Olde English Pub, yummy tacos and fish!

Week 3, 2021 (2/1-7/21)

Little Marsh Island (2/3/21)

Most memorable was watching the perfect ballet of 4 pelicans in flight along the boat. A stork fishing in a pond and a ginormous barge being pushed by a tug moved quietly past our anchorage.

St. Augustine (2/4-7/21)

We hooked a mooring ball the first night, took the dinghy into town to enjoy a beverage and walk the coble stone streets. We saw friends of Kent’s from high school, Dan & Debbie. Wonderful seeing them and hearing of their years in St. Augustine. Had to go back to the Old City House Restaurant to enjoy fine dining and great atmosphere. Found a lovely tea shop, enjoyed a beautiful sunset, and some great sailing ships!
