Week 6 (2/22-28/21)

Indiantown (2/22/21)

I taught 6th grade in Indiantown. It was about a 30 minute drive from Stuart. I drove along the St. Lucie river, which is the river we cruised to get to Indiantown. I was looking forward to some great Mexican food but our marina was not close enough to town. It is a good “hurricane hole” that we will keep in mind for next fall. We also went through our first of 4 locks between the east and west coast. I was a bit nervous, but it's something that you never forget and we went through several locks when we took a canal boat through the Erie Canal.

Lake Okeechobee to Clewiston (2/23/21)

Stayed at the Rolan Martin Tiki Bar, saw a gator and enjoyed cruising the lake. We had a nice day and deep water! It took about 3 hours to cross.

LaBelle (2/24-25/21)

What a nice surprise! Great town, nice people, good food and a free dock with power and water. We found a fancy brewery, with a gator, nice walking town and camels ready to ride at the local Swamp Cabbage Festival! We got to have dinner with Kent’s cousin David and Kristine. David made a nice video as we were leaving using his drone. It was cool to see our boat from the air cruising the river and going under a bridge.

Cape Coral/Bimini Basin anchorage (2/26-27/21)

This was an interesting anchorage! To get into it you cross a very shallow area that is not very well marked on maps. This is after you survive the mega boat traffic of Ft. Myers. Worst traffic we’ve been in since Charleston! Then you cruise, about a mile, through canals lined with beautiful homes. Finally, you pop into an open area surrounded by the town, condos, and homes. We had such a great time taking the dingy through the canals! Absolutely beautiful sunsets and nice smooth water!

Cayo Costa anchorage (2/28-1/21)

This stop is one of my all-time favorites! The water was beautiful, clear, and warm; blue with an effervescent green. We went swimming, took the dinghy on several excursions, saw manatee, Kent caught a delicious fish, and we went over to Cabbage Key Island for a “cheeseburger in paradise”! Bodie even went wading for the first time! Kent and Bradley actually went to Cayo Costa many years ago for a camping experience. Somewhere we definitely want to return to.
