5/2/22 Havre
De Grace MD This is the furthest we have
been north! Another lovely town!
5/6-16/22 Cape May NJ Yes, we were there 12 days! This being our 1st open ocean outing we, along with about 7 other trawlers, waited for a good weather window. I’ll also mention that even the professional captains waited for 9 days before heading out! We got to see Pam and Chuck, Kent's cousin, we had a rainy day but so fun getting together with them.
We finally had a beautiful day with calm seas!
5/17-18/22 Atlantic
City and Manasquan NJ We stopped twice
along the way. Loved Atlantic City! We explored it mostly by dinghy but did
find a Tiki Bar for lunch! It is much like a mini-Vegas with the tall
buildings, lights and excitement in the air.
We did not love Manasquan after running aground trying to get into the marina we had booked. We called to ask where the deepest route was into the marina, that we have a 4 foot depth, but they said they only have 3 feet. We call another marina which secured us a slip but had a very difficult docking with the current, wind and fixed docks We took a walk and came back to a swirling current and our boat about 9 feet higher than we left it! It was scary getting back on the boat and trying to get off the next morning. We timed our departure trying not to get washed away, but still had nice weather in the Atlantic!
5/19/22 New York NY Arriving in NY Harbor was a BIG Goal and highlight to our now 2 years and 4 months of moving to Daydream! That day started out fairly foggy, but broke up as we entered the harbor. First items to watch out for was the many zipping ferry boats, huge tugs with barges and boats venturing out of the many water ways leading into the harbor! The Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge loomed large, leading into The Narrows and Upper New York Bay where Miss Liberty herself stands proud! What a memorable moment to driving up beside her! We got some Fantastic pictures and unforgettable chills! We cruised behind her near Liberty State Park where we anchored out for the night.
Kents Birthday
wish was to eat oysters and drink a martini at the Grand Central Station Oyster
Bar! We were concerned with leaving Bodie very long on the boat by himself, but
discovered they had no problem with us bringing him in his cage. This is an
iconic bar/restaurant that is not to be missed, opening in 1913! From the
beautiful oyster shaped arch ways to the superb service it is a treat! We met
one of Kents high school friends there and had a Fabulous time eating oysters, delicious
clam chowder and fresh fish! We finished the night toasting Kent at one of the
oldest bars in NY!
5/21/22 Happy Birthday Kent! We went into Manhattan
to meet Kent’s cousin Miffy for lunch! We had a lovely lunch and nice visit
catching up on our families! Of course we made stops at the delicious cheese
and meat delicatessen. Kent bought a meat sandwich that fed us for 2 days!
5/22/22 We traveled to the DUMBO section of Brooklyn to meet another cousin for lunch! We found a lovely park to settle in with Adam and enjoy a sandwich. So wonderful to see him. We walked into Brooklyn Heights and through other beautiful, old areas!
5/23/22 Leaving Brooklyn, we head east into the East
River where we found an anchorage near City Island. We found some very nice
folks at the coffee shop, more beautiful old homes and an interesting statue on
an island. We took the dinghy for a long cruise around City Island! We were
also very intrigued with Hart Island. Another beautiful sky and sunset!
5/24/22 Port Jefferson; an Absolutely Beautiful
anchorage! We were very happy to arrive after a very bumpy ride in the bay. Our
only company was one other sailboat. We dinghied over to a shell island where
Bodie loved “running very fast” and free. We found washed up horseshoe crabs
and some nice shells! More huge ferries, beautiful water and sky!
5/25/22 Old Saybrook, CT; found a free mooring field
only a short walk to town! Interesting that Katharine Hepburn was born here! It
was its own colony until 1644, (when in joined the CT Colony) it then
incorporated as a town in 1854. We found a fun pub, delicious sidewalk café and
a coffee roaster! One of our first visits from swans!
The day before
was the devastating Uvalde school shooting! We walked by an adorable elementary
school each time we walked into town. My heart would become consumed with the
heartache and suffering that happened that day to children and adults in that
community.
5/26-30/22 Shelter Island NY; what a beautiful cruise to
Shelter Island! Lovely homes, old lighthouses, dodging water ferries, sand
beach and lovely water! Shelly was kind enough to let us stay in her home, but
we also could get back to the boat by dinghy. She had her yearly “party on the
porch”, which had not happened for 2 years. She has an adorable island home
which is perfect for entertaining. We met her local friends, ate delicious
homemade food and drank lovely wines. We spent one afternoon on our boat
sunning and swimming!
