June 2022

 June 2022

We passed through these towns/anchorages heading back toward Port Washington NY and into the Hudson River!

6/1-2/22 New London CT back to Old Saybrook CT

6/3-5/22 Grove Beach CT

6/6/22 Branford CT - Happy 41st Anniversary to Us! Enjoyed checking out Branford! Nice drinks by the river, steaks on the boat and listening to live music in the park, from the fly bridge! Beautiful river running through town with a lovely old stone bridge and bright garden.

6/7-11/22 Milford CT - Kent got us tickets to see Kenny Loggins, one of my all-time favorites! Leaving Bodie at “doggie daycare” we took the train from Branford to Norwalk. Stayed overnight in a hotel, complete with soft bunny and went to the Crystal Theatre for the concert! Beautifully renovated theatre, not a bad seat in the house. Kenny did not disappoint! He combined some of his oldies but goodies, with short informational interview sessions. Loved hearing more about his history and plans for the future!

6/12/22 Norwalk - We were fortunate to see some friends I’d met when Ginny and I did our cruise on the “Elegant Elbe” Prague to Berlin! We had a lovely sushi dinner, went back to their lovely home for drinks and then to the local brewery!

6/13/22 Stamford CT - We met up with one of Kent’s cousins, Aleda, and enjoyed a lovely visit with her on Daydream and dinner near by. Having not seen her in years it was super special to catch up and hear of her families updates.

6/14-15/22 Port Washington NY - Heading inland on the East River, south of The Bronx, we passed Rikers Island. We then turned north onto the Harlem River then entered the Hudson River passing LaGuardia Airport, Central Park, Fort Lee, and Yonkers! Traveling from the East River onto the Harlem River we miscalculated and ended up fighting a 6 knot, turbulent, upriver current! Adding to the excitement were many large, fast-moving ferries which small craft is required to give right-of-way! One of our most exciting rides on river rapids!

6/16/22 Croton-on-Hudson NY (Half Moon Bay)

6/17/22 Newburgh NY

6/18/22 Kingston NY

6/19/22 Saugerties NY

6/20/22 Coeymans NY

6/21-22/22 Mechanicville NY

6/23/22 Schuylerville NY - Schuylerville is known for the surrender of the British Army following the Battles of Saratoga (1777). Several historic buildings, including General Philip Schuyler’s house are part of the Saratoga National Historical Park. Within the Village of Schuylerville there is a very well preserved section of the historic Old Champlain Canal and Towpath From the Schuyler House to Lock 5 Island. The Old Champlain Canal is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This bike and pedestrian pathway is a link between the historic sites related to the siege of 1777 and the structures and waterways of the original Champlain Canal and recreation sites along the west bank of the Hudson River. We visited Bound By Fate Brewery and had a lovely lunch by a pond. The Schuyler sisters all had relationships with Alexander Hamilton! He did marry Elizabeth but continued corresponding with the other two sisters, and flirtatious exchange with Angelica. Of course there is much more to discover in the movie Hamilton!

6/24/22 Fort Edward NY - Staying over night at the lock we watched the “snow” of cotton float by. Lovely spot by the bridge! Fun to explore old pubs like Big G’s!

6/25/22 Whitewall NY

6/26/22 Port Henry NY - Another interesting bridge, lovely canal and sunset.

6/27/22 Vergennes VT  (Entered Lake Champlain) My first time in Vermont!

Many townspeople worked producing and transporting lumber and potash. A bridge was built across the falls. The Monkton Ironworks Company was established on the falls, and at its height, around 1812, the company had nine forges, blast and air furnaces, a rolling mill, and a wire factory. A tunnel in the west bank of the falls, used to funnel water from the falls to the ironworks, and a towpath along the Otter Creek are some of the archeological remains of the once active industry.

6/28/22 Burlington VT

6/29/22 Rouses Point NY

6/30-1/22 Canadian Customs Port - Cantic  (Entered Riviere Richelieu)

St. Jean, Quebec Canada

Canada Day! The celebration of the anniversary of Canadian Confederation! Fireworks, music, lights and food! St. Jean is situated on the west bank of the Richelieu River at the northernmost navigable point of Lake Champlain. The Chambly Canal extends 12 miles north along the west bank of the river and provides modern freight passage to Chambly and the St. Lawrence River. The canal has one lock near the downtown core of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. In the winter, the city builds a skating rink on the canal near the lock. In the summer, the embankment on the east side of the canal has a 12 mile cycling path.
