1/2-3/22 Jacksonville

After a stop in Jacksonville we are back in Georgia water! Great to see my high school swim coach, Lynda Quillen! Three new stops so far; St. Mary’s, Jekyll Island and Duplin River near Sapelo Island. Love seeing so many dolphins jumping, riding our bow and wake! Also saw a jumping shark and sting ray! Hope the New Year finds you happy and healthy!

1/4/22 St. Mary's (Sister's River) Loved St. Mary’s hospitality, old homes and waterfront park. 

1/6/22 Jekyll Island - We’d been to Jekyll before but first time at their marina. Such a fun island with amazing historical “cottages”, new town center, beautiful sand beach and great trails! 

1/7/22 Duplin River anchored near Sapelo Island - So much interesting history here. It is a state-protected barrier island in Georgia. It is only accessible by boat or small aircraft. The community of Hog Hammock is located on the island, which is the last know Gullah-Geechees who descended from enslaved West African people brought to the island in the 1700-1800's. In the early 19th century Thomas Spalding, Georgia Senator, bought the island and developed it into a plantation cultivating live oak, sea island cotton, corn and sugar cane. The 20th century new owner, Howard Coffin founder of Hudson Motor Car Company, purchased the entire island except for land owned by the former slaves. He brought in cattle, renovated roads and the Spalding house which had been heavily vandalized during the Civil War. The island is now mostly owned by the state of Georgia as a Natural Resource and Estuarine Research Reserve. 

1/8/22 Sunbury

We were greeted by this beautiful peacock and then enjoyed the best oysters ever, cultivated by St. Catherine's Sound Shellfish Co! Even I ate them raw as they were sweet, clean and fresh! 

Another town engulfed in history! In 1758 it was established but left in ruins after the Revolutionary War. It saw many deaths from yellow fever and was struck by two hurricanes in the early 1800's.

1/9/22 St. Catherines Island anchored in Walberg Creek - Beautiful day cruising and discovering this interesting island. The remanences of dead trees and their roots are intriguing. Only two other boats on the beach so we let Bodie run and walked around to the Atlantic side! 

1/10/22 Isle of Hope (Savannah) - Nice marina, with a courtesy car, which allowed us to go shopping, do laundry and find a brewery! Very nice people living along the waters edge in beautifully restored homes!

1/12/22 Daufuskie Island anchored in Cooper River

Fun spot with a Tiki bar that brings people in by the hundreds on nice weekend days. Apparently finding a boat parking space sometimes requires circling the island a few times, this spot is so popular! There were only a few locals there when we came in to enjoye some rum and ahi! More interesting history that includes the name, which comes from the Muscogee language meaning "sharp feather" for the island's distinctive shape. Artifacts dating back 9,000 years and ancient piles of oyster shells! 

And AMAZING Sunset!

1/13/22 Hilton Head Stayed at an RV and Marine Park, very nice! Dolpins swimming around for most of the day. Mark and Nina (Kat's son) picked us up to go have dinner, with beer tasting, and we got to also see their daughter Carolina! 

1/15-17/22 Lady's Island across from Beaufort SC

             You might think it was spring if not for the cool temps and wind!

1/19/22  Mosquito Creek at B & B Seafood Company

Best SC white shrimp and Bonus no mosquitos like last spring!

Cute puppy but to sweet for Bodie, Kent made a delicious low country boil! 

1/20/22 Steamboat Creek - Beautiful sunset with interesting reflections on the water, nice dinghy to Bodie walkies, and lots of oyster beds.

1/21-22/22 Charleston

Traveling to Charleston we came upon a large barge which housed The American Wind Symphony! I’ve attached a link if you are interested in learning more about this unusual, traveling music stage.

We stayed at the Maritime Center which is next to a lovely park with great facilities. Very active area with barges and large cruise ship. Shopping for a sweater for Bodie we discovered the Chucktown Brewery. Great beer and food, but did not find a Bodie coat. Temperatures got down to 30* and windy. We discovered perhaps the Best Sushi Bar ever, delicious, fresh and beautiful!

1/23/22 McClellanville 

Best gas prices around, but poor Daydream, Freeeeezing!

1/24/22 Georgetown - Love this town! Great anchorage, easy town dock, bakery, wine and cheese shop, beautiful sunsets and waterfront.

1/25-26/22 Osprey Marina near Myrtle Beach

Goats! Kent always says when you see goats it’s going to be a good day!

1/26/22 Little River SC (Holden Beach first stop in NC) 

Beautiful, deserted beach! Interesting to watch them rebuilding the beach by pumping sand from out in the ocean onto the beach. Lovely sky, water and beach colors!               

 1/27/22 Top Sail NC - Nice anchorage near a beautiful, empty beach for Bodie to run on! Interesting to watch workers restoring the beach by pumping sand from about 2 miles out onto the beach!

1/28/22 Swansboro NC  Fun stop with an ice cream/clothing/gifts/wine/beer and live music store! We’ve been here a couple times and love walking the waterfront and exploring the shops and restaurants! I can always find my favorite fruit slices and fudge at the candy store!

 1/29 -2/5 Beaufort NC  Back to Daydreams origin! We always enjoy our time here meeting new and old friends. More interesting history, great boats and nice walking town. Kent did some maintenance on the boat making sure she is in shipshape!
